A typical day at Le Poirier
Breakfast is served in your gite, at your requested time, to give a leisurely start to the day - warm croissants, homemade bread, homemade jam, yogurt, muesli fruit……… as much as you like!
The days in the studio start at 10 am - each morning Jenny introduces the day’s techniques – showing examples of her work, and giving demonstrations. Then it is your opportunity to have a go!
Lunch is served in the shade in the garden or in La Chouette, depending on the weather. Delicious home made soups, quiches, tarte flambee, salads, local cheeses, scrummy puddings - nutmeg ice cream, apricot tarte tatin …………………
Afterwards you will be able to continue with your artwork at your leisure, take a nap, or take time to relax in the private garden and use the swimming pool, in the hotter months. The studio and materials will be available at all times of the day and night (for the insomniacs!) to enable you to take advantage of the sunshine and amenities during the day.
The evening meal will be spent together with Jenny in what we hope will be a combination of more good wine, good food and good company!

The
weeks agenda for
1. Batik /Machine embroidery or
2. Silk painting /Nuno felting
- this will vary depending on the course but gives an idea of what we intend to do, the days out can vary because of the weather, there is also flexibility for individual development, once you begin to experiment.
- Please see the link from the home page for the agenda for the ten day course
- We collect you from the airport or station unless you are travelling by car
Saturday:
Arrive, settle in and relax with a glass of wine, (or two!) and a delicious meal, on the first evening of our week together
Sunday:
1. Batik on tissue paper - experiment with wax, bleach and dyes - you will be amazed by the effects you can achieve - you may not want to try anything else! Or
2. Silk painting - learn basic skills such as use of gutta, salt, wet on wet, wet on dry. Create samples and other larger pieces of work
Monday:
1. Batik on fabric and paper - building on skills learnt yesterday - using tjantings, brushes and other methods of applying wax, create samples and larger pieces of work Or
2. More silk techniques such as tie dye, use of stencils, use of the hairdryer, and anti spread.
Tuesday:
Continue with work in the studio in the morning , then lunch at the restaurant on the lake in Argenton les Vallees, after which we return home where you can do more work or sleep off your lunch!
Wednesday:
1. Machine embroidery – learn how to ‘draw’ with the machine to create small samples and larger pieces possibly working onto one of your batiks, on paper or fabric. Or
2. Nuno felting – learn wet felting techniques that allow you to felt wool fibres to silk and muslin, and how to combine colours and add different yarns to create exciting effects
Thursday:
1. Learn how to do reverse appliqué, by layering, stitching and cutting in to fabric, and cutwork using machine embroidery on loose weave fabrics Or
2. Try felting on to silk that you have coloured earlier in the week, with tie dye or salt. Make a larger piece – a scarf or a hanging – using techniques that you have learnt.
Friday:
Visit the nearby town of Thouars and its fantastic market. Picnic in the beautiful town of Montreuil Bellay, with its medieaval chateau, where you may want to take more photos. Return later in the afternoon to do more art or just relax.
Saturday:
Depart after breakfast at your leisure.
The studio is available for you to work in each day and evening, not just during tutored sessions.
