A day at Le Poirier

Breakfast is served in your gite,at your requested time, to give a leisurely start to the day.

Lunch is served in the shade in the garden or in  La Chouette, depending on the weather.

Afterwards you will be able to continue with your artwork at your leisure, take a nap, or take time to relax in the private garden and use the swimming pool. The studio and materials will be available at all times of the day and night (for the insomniacs!) to enable you to take advantage of the sunshine and amenities during the day.

The evening meal will be spent together with Jenny and Malcolm  in what we hope will be a combination of good wine, good food and good company!

The weeks agenda

  - this may vary but gives an idea of what we intend to do, the days out can vary because of the weather, there is also flexibility for individual development, once you begin to experiment.

Saturday: Arrive, settle in and relax with a glass of wine, (or two!), and an evening meal

Sunday: Batik on tissue paper - experiment with wax, bleach and dyes - you will be amazed by the effects you can achieve - you may not want to try anything else!

Monday: Batik on fabric - building on skills learnt yesterday - using tjantings, brushes and other methods of applying wax, create samples and larger pieces of work

Tuesday:Visit the nearby town of Argenton  les Vallees, where you will have the opportunity to take photos of things that interest you that you may wish to work from back in the studio, then lunch at the restaurant on the lake in Argenton les Vallees, followed by an afternoon back home where you may want to continue with your art or simply sleep off your lunch!

Wednesday: Silk painting -   learn basic skills  such as use of gutta, salt, wet on wet techniques, and other experimental techniques; using stencils. Create samples and other larger pieces of work.

Thursday:  Machine embroidery/ fabric collage - create small samples and larger pieces using fabric scraps, possibly working onto a piece of silk painting or batik, and using machine embroidery, or simple stitches to embellish the work. Try also reverse applique by layering, stitching and cutting into the fabric.

Friday:Visit the nearby town of Thouars and its fantastic market. Picnic in the beautiful town of Montreuil Bellay, with its medieaval chateau, where you may want to take more photos. Spend the afternoon back at the house to do more art or just relax.

Saturday: Depart after breakfast at your leisure.

Should you want to concentrate on one or two of the techniques instead of all three that is fine. The studio is available for you to work in each day and evening, not just during tutored sessions.
