A fully equipped studio to inspire and enjoy

We often get asked if you need to

have a lot of experience to come

on one of our courses ?

the answer to that is a definite NO!

The idea is to have fun,

relax and enjoy being creative.

Whatever skills you have

when you arrive we hope you

will go away with something more

Maggie designing a batik after a visit to the mediaeval tapestry in Angers

Materials and equipment available for use

Paper; cartridge and tissue paper, pencils, crayons, pastels; oil and chalk, acrylic paints, inks, batik materials; wax, tjantings, dyes, cotton fabric, silk painting materials; silk,  gutta, dyes, salt, sewing machines, fabric, threads.

We also have two digital cameras and computer, scanner and printer.

We  have aprons available but you may wish to bring your own, or an old shirt for good coverage!

We suggest you  bring with you a small sketchbook (A5 or A4), small watercolour paintbox, and any pencils, crayons etc. to use  on our visits to local towns or just around Le Poirier.

Don't forget your camera !!

Silk is provided for small samples and to produce one larger piece, I have silk scarves available to buy, but you may want to bring your own.

White cotton is provided for small samples and to produce one larger piece, cotton bags are available to buy for decorating with batik.

You may wish to bring with you images to use as inspiration such as photos, postcards etc. I have plenty of books and resources, we also have a variety of objects for drawing, and there is also the house and surrounding farm buildings, and drawings and photos produced on excursions.

My current work involves batik on canvas, however it is not possible for me to keep a lot of canvases in stock should you wish to try this technique, therefore if you have space in your luggage to bring yourself a couple of canvases please feel free to do so. Canvases are available to buy quite cheaply now, and don’t have to be of the best quality to use with batik.
